Driver version 451.85 of GForce hotfix display is based on our latest game ready driver 451.67.
A GeForce driver is an incredibly complex piece of software, we have a force of software engineers who regularly add features and fix bugs. These changes were tested in the main driver branches, which were eventually driven by a huge QA process and published.
Since many of our changes are being checked in, we usually try to align driver releases with significant game or product releases. This process has served us quite well over the years but it has one significant weakness. Many times a change that is important to many users, we can sit and wait if we can’t release the driver.
Our way of trying to get some of these fixes back to you quickly is the GeForce Hotfix driver way. What it fixes is a part of your feedback on the driver feedback thread and how realistic it is for us to fix it quickly. These corrections (and many more) will be linked to the release of the next official driver, at which point the hotfix driver will be unloaded.
To be sure, these hotfix drivers are provided in beta, alchemy, and the like. They are driven through a short QA process. The only reason for their presence is to bring you faster solutions. The safest option is to wait for the next WHQL certified driver. But we know that many of you want to try these.
These hotfix drivers represent lots of extra work by our engineering teams, I hope they provide value for you. We'll try it out and see if people like the idea and want us to continue.
